Where style meets sustainability

Moksa Surya (Moksa- Freedom, Surya Sun God,) is the first ready to wear capsule collection derived from MOKSA, Handmade in London, custom and bespoke clothing.

This Spring Summer 2009 collection comprises 24 pieces of wearable ethical fashion, which embody the label’s strict adherence to Fair Trade and ethical, organically produced materials including Peace silk, Tussah silk, and organic bamboo, silk and cotton. Moksa has applied to become a Registered member of Fair Trade Foundation.

The garments are produced in quantities of 100. Twenty of the pieces are produced locally within London in order to reduce carbon emissions and the collection launches in London on November 19 2008 at the prestigious Fashion Expo

www.fashion at the Islington Business Centre.

The new label is inspired by the existing body of Moksa pieces, which draws upon the old to create something new. Heaven is reinvented around us, through the awareness we put out. Moksa represents fashion-consciousness in a slow fashion, socially responsible business model by using only materials, which have been, sourced through ethical, organic and Fair Trade suppliers. Some of the pieces are then embellished by home workers or inmates in the UK Prison System, through the Charity Fine Cell Work. Our Freedom Tees, made of organic cotton sourced in Turkey are created by a cooperative in Gaza and the West Bank. In everything we do, we leave our fingerprint of sustainability and respect to the Earth.

For so long, ethical fashion has represented compromising style, in a patchwork, unwearable array of sack cloths. Moksa adds glamour and style to a market which is growing by 81% in the UK, annually. The contemporary buyer of high end women’s fashion is an educated and intelligent consumer. The back story of Moksa Surya, the attention to embroidery and other detailed embellishment and knowing that the garment has been made through the energy and consciousness of sharing, ensure that the woman in Moksa clothing defines her own style statement, the clothing is an accessory and it complements her , she is not branded by wearing the clothes.
